“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” - Carl Rogers

Jamie (James) Barone

LPC-A
Licensed Professional Counselor Associate

Jamie is a therapist who works with adolescents and adults. He guides clients in managing depression, anxiety, stress, and burnout, as well as navigating life transitions, and helps build self-esteem and confidence. He also recognizes the importance of learning from relationship struggles and brings that into sessions.

Before becoming a counselor, Jamie spent years coaching competitive swimmers and, in 2012, founded a nationally ranked swim club. He coached athletes to top-tier collegiate programs, the US Olympic Trials, and international competition, helping them build the confidence to reach those goals. In 2024, he served as an assistant coach for the Paris Paralympic Swim Team. Coaching taught him that people take risks and change when they trust the person beside them. He brings that same steadiness and honesty to his work with clients. Jamie has a particular interest in working with athletes, from competitive teens to adults, who face performance anxiety, perfectionism, injury, and the transition out of sport.

Jamie trained at Silver Hill Hospital, where he led individual and group therapy for inpatients and outpatients in the acute care and adolescent units. He holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sacred Heart University and a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Maryland.

Jamie’s approach draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which he studied in graduate school and taught to patients at Silver Hill.  He teaches clients practical skills from both modalities.  Jamie believes the therapist-client relationship is central to healing and brings humor and candor to his sessions.

Away from the office, Jamie is a Stamford local who lives with his wife and two children. The family loves traveling together, and Jamie stays active by playing ice hockey and lifting weights.
