Dr. Jodi Costenbader is a licensed psychotherapist with a PhD in clinical psychology. She works with older adolescents, adults and couples. Jodi is also a personal trainer certified by the American College of Sports Medicine.
Jodi’s skill sets make her uniquely qualified to provide an integrative approach to wellness that focuses on both mind and body. Her philosophy is that our thoughts and emotions are connected to our actions and through a combination of treatment approaches, she helps clients identify and address obstacles, underlying beliefs, and internal dialogues that might be contributing to negative patterns. Through her non-judgmental and non-pathologizing approach she holds space for her clients to experience the full range of human emotion and helps them gain a deeper insight into their inner world. She works collaboratively with her diverse client base to develop tools and strategies to help them navigate their path. Her passion is to help others find what makes them feel strong, both emotionally and physically. Together with her clients, she explores personal growth and helps to develop realistic goals on their journey towards a healthier lifestyle. Jodi believes that in therapy, as in life, flexibility and humor are essential, and her therapeutic style reflects that.
Dr. Costenbader completed her undergraduate studies in psychology at Binghamton University, earned her MS in clinical psychology at the University of Bridgeport, and her PhD in clinical psychology from Walden University. She has more than 20 years of training and of experience in the field of psychology and obtained her ACSM Certification in Personal Training in 2012. She has experience working in inpatient and outpatient mental health centers, substance abuse treatment facilities, as well as private practice. Additional trainings include brief behavior therapy, crisis intervention, creating meaningful change, principles for effective couples therapy, Mindfulness, CBT, DBT and IFS. In addition to office visits, home visits or outdoor walking sessions can be scheduled.
When Jodi is not working, she spends most of her time focusing on the incredibly important, intensely stressful yet amazingly rewarding job of being a parent. She strives to teach her children resilience, the value of self-worth, and the power of relationships. They in turn remind her to slow down, enjoy the little things and never lose your sense of humor. While Jodi loves spending time with her family, her perfect day would always include her head in a book and her toes in the sand…probably after she’s exercised.
