Andrew Tepper  | LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Andrew Tepper brings 15 years of individual and group psychotherapy in both the inpatient and outpatient setting experience to the Riverwalk Group. His therapeutic approach is integrative and holistic, engaging the imagination and calling upon a lifelong interest in music and the creative arts. Andrew believes that successful treatment is predicated on having a strong bond, or ‘therapeutic alliance,’ between the client and therapist. He listens deeply and reflectively to sustain a connective, compassionate, and safe environment that promotes trust, healing, and personal growth. He values humor as way to connect with others, and his love for meditation and mindfulness-based stress reduction also informs how he approaches both his work and life.

Andrew specializes in working with pre-adolescents, adolescents, adults and families. His areas of interest include anxiety, depression, mood disorders, stress reduction, anger management, and conflict resolution. Andrew holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Bates College and received his Masters of Social Work degree from Columbia University School of Social Work. He has received extensive training in Psychodrama, Sociometry, and Group Psychotherapy from the Hudson Valley Psychodrama Institute. In addition, he draws from years of training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), and Mindfulness techniques to mitigate symptoms of depression and anxiety.

As the  previous Director of the Music and Theater Program at Four Winds Hospital, Andrew created a recording studio to engage resistant patients in the psychotherapeutic process through music production.  While at Four Winds, Andrew also ran a meditation program,  did individual psychotherapy, and facilitated group psychotherapy for adults, adolescents, and children.

Andrew is also the CEO and Co-founder of Enhanced Mood, LLC, a company focused on the development of the application, Check In. Check In is a multimedia streaming service for mental health that delivers a customized experience made up of video, audio, and images. Andrew uses Check In as a part of his practice to build rapport, enhance the therapeutic experience, and help clients positively shift their emotional states between sessions. In addition, Andrew has consulted as a facilitator for the Eileen Fisher Leadership Institute, devoting over three years to working with Veterans through the non-profit organization Intersections International. At Intersections, Andrew helped Veterans to process their experiences and heal by making music that addresses themes surrounding war.

In his free time, Andrew enjoys spending time with friends and family, jogging as a meditative practice, and making music. He also enjoys traveling, laughing, and culinary adventures.
